In addition to parks and trails, the department is also involved in various recreational programs. They offer summer camps, classes, and music programs.
The farm on the Parks and Recreation Department property is also used as a demonstration site for sustainable living. In addition, it is home to chickens and fruit trees.
Another facility on the Parks and Recreation Department property is the Germantown Aquatic Center. This facility features a swimming pool, diving board area, and concession stand. A miniature model boat area is also available.

The National Recreation and Park Association has several programs to help improve the quality of life for its members. For instance, they are an authorized provider of the International Association for Continuing Education and Training CEUs. Also, NRPA’s Advocacy Resource Center, which is part of its more extensive advocacy program, is an excellent resource for the park and recreation community.
Several events and conferences are held by NRPA throughout the year. In addition, they provide training seminars, such as their annual Park and Recreation Maintenance Management School.
